Topping It Off

Snapshot_20110309_1

Finished another hat tonight.  It’s an all black bobble stitch slouch hat.  I wasn’t thrilled with how It turned out but it’s doable.  I don’t have a picture of that one yet.  It’s a pretty easy pattern (Urban Jungle Crocheted Slouchy Beanie) but I used the Red Heart Super Saver Yarn I had bunches of and that yarn is too stiff.  If I don’t manually slouch it down, it would stand up like a stove pipe.  I would like to do this one in a nice soft drapey yarn though.

2011-03-09 projects 002Along with the black version of the urban jungle beanie, I now have a very nice collection to send to Mom.  I also contacted my local Project Linus chapter and will start creating the baby blankets for pickup.  That’s a pretty nice charity, delivering blankets to sick kids in the hospital.

The hats and blankets allow me to practice my stitches, and do something that works up quick while I work on learning how to do socks.  Yes, I’m still determined to learn how to knit socks.  I picked up a book today called Knitting Circles Around Socks by Antje Gillingham.  Instead of double pointed needles or circular needles, knitting one sock at a time, you use two circular needles together and knit both socks at the same time.  Makes sense to me and has a picture of the evil gusset part.  Perhaps I shall get past the gusset and actually get to the instep of a sock before swearing loudly.
